Applications
Applications include fermentation and biotechnology and starch and food processing. Confirm material properties and process conditions before selecting the equipment configuration.
Fermentation broths, yeast suspensions, protein liquids and ultrafiltration retentates requiring continuous concentration or clarification.
Starch-process streams, beer and protein liquids, fruit-juice by-products and related food-process suspensions.
Plant extracts and botanical process liquors requiring continuous solids removal, concentration or clarification.
Soft solids and fine-particle suspensions where both clarification quality and concentrated-solids dewatering are important.
Working Principle
The process route is selected around the material and product targets.
Suspension enters through the feed pipe and is introduced near the end of the small-angle scroll into the high-speed double-cone bowl.
In the increasing-diameter cone, centrifugal force settles the solid phase while the scroll conveys the concentrated material toward the bowl's maximum-diameter section.
The solids then enter the large-angle cone. As bowl diameter decreases, centrifugal loading and scroll transport continue to remove liquid from the concentrated solids.
Dewatered solids are conveyed to the discharge ports at the end of the large-angle cone and leave the machine continuously.
Clarified liquid flows into the clarification zone and is discharged under pressure through an adjustable liquid-discharge impeller, or paring disc.
Performance Highlights
Final performance remains dependent on feed properties and engineering confirmation.
The first cone concentrates the solids and the second cone intensifies dewatering in one continuous rotating assembly.
The operating range is selected for the material and confirmed for the quoted configuration.
High-speed sedimentation improves separation of fine, soft and comparatively difficult-to-settle solids.
Continuous feeding, settling, concentration, dewatering and solids discharge support large-scale production.
The adjustable liquid-discharge impeller changes the liquid level during operation to tune clarification and cake moisture.
Bowl speed, differential speed and liquid level can be coordinated for different feed properties and product-quality targets.
High centrifugal intensity and controllable residence conditions support clear liquid discharge on suitable feeds.
Combining both functions in one machine reduces intermediate handling and simplifies the continuous process route.
System Configuration
Core equipment and auxiliary systems are selected around the process duty.
The increasing-diameter concentration cone and decreasing-diameter dewatering cone complete two separation stages in one continuous machine.
The bowl and scroll rotate in the same direction with a controlled speed difference that governs solids residence time, conveying rate and cake dryness.
The liquid level can be changed online through the variable liquid-discharge impeller to optimize clarification, solids concentration, cake compaction and residual moisture.
The paring-disc arrangement removes clarified liquid under pressure and can reduce the need for a separate discharge pump, subject to process design.
The scroll continuously conveys settled solids to the discharge end while clarified liquid leaves through a separate outlet.
Wear protection, sealing, drive control and condition monitoring are selected for the actual feed and operating environment.
